Jaipur- The pink city
I went on 2 days trip to Jaipur with my husband and my daughter in the month of February.
We boarded the Ajmer Shatabdi Express in the morning from New Delhi railway station. It took almost 5hrs to reach Jaipur. We checked into hotel HR Palace . The hotel was decent one with reasonable price. We had a breakfast and lunch while staying at this hotel and it was a normal affair, nothing extra ordinary. The plus is that the staff was courteous and we were looked after well. So if you are staying here, the in house restaurant would deserve a look in.
We freshened up and then we left for Choki Dhani in the evening. It is 12-15kms away from the city and has been setup as a village. If you want to get a flavor of Rajasthani culture and it’s cuisine then this should be one of the places you must consider.
The entry fees is 700 per person for adults and 400 per child (2’5″ft to 3’5″ft) .
They serve authentic Rajasthani thali , the taste is really good and is a must try if you are there. We were given turbans to wear and we had our food served on the floor. It was indeed a nice experience. We also saw folk dances which were going around in some groups everywhere in Choki Dhani. We spent almost 3-4 hrs and returned by 10 in the night. As the place is far from city so it is recommended if you take your own vehicle because it gets difficult to find any cab in the night.

Next morning we had breakfast in the hotel itself and headed towards Amer Fort. On the way to the fort we saw Hawa Mahal which is made up of pink stones, which is the primary stone used in almost all Jaipur monuments, which is the reason Jaipur is known as pink city.
We reached Amer Fort in half n hour.
Its a place not just for history stuff but also for folks who would just appreciate spending a relaxing time. The fort premises provide just that along with an awesome view of the Amer town. The elephant ride is a good attraction but it is only in morning hours.
If you are interested in nice trivia about the fort then do get a guide it is well worth the price they charge.
Overall you can look forward to spending 1.5 hours to 4 hours at this place. It has many picturesque points so if you are a person who likes to click many photos just like me ๐, then my friend you are at the right place. ๐๐ Amer fort doesn’t fail to amaze you.

We returned to hotel by late afternoon and had lunch at the hotel and rested for the while. We then went to local markets of Jaipur – Tripolia Bazar and Bapu Bazar. We had great experience shopping at this pink city market! Great stuffs are available at decent prices.
Even if not buying just walking around this colorful bazaar is a great experience in the pink city. We ended our day with delicious dinner at Midtown Multicuisine restaurant, which is in the market itself. We found this place on trip advisor and since it has an awkward location in the middle of a busy market, it’s easy to miss. But as suggested by most reviews that this place was good we planned to give it a try and must say we were not disappointed at all.
We ended up trying their tandoori paneer starter which was ‘differently’ done and tasted yummy, some Italian dishes (masala garlic bread specially) and paneer angare. If you are in Jaipur please do try this restaurant, you will surely like it.
One word of caution on the shopping bit – Do not trust any guide or taxi driver’s suggestion to take you for shopping authentic Rajasthani handicrafts because invariably they will take you to an expensive touristy private emporiums, and shopping there is not worth the price. Usually you can get good handicrafts from the traditional markets as I have covered above.
We had our train next morning , Double Decker express. As the name sounds, it’s actually double decker and it was new experience for us as well.
We had a very short trip , so we tried to cover the most popular places and it was memorable experience. ๐
