Jaisalmer- Jodhpur
I went to Jaisalmer and Jodhpur in Dec 2018 with my husband and my daughter. It was 4 day trip from Delhi to Jodhpur then to Jaisalmer.
We boarded Mandore Express from Delhi to Jodhpur which runs from old Delhi railway station in the night. It reached Jodhpur in the next morning. We got freshened up a bit in the nearby guest house named Govind Hotel which charged us on hourly basis. It is decent budget hotel with minimum facilities. Then we were off to Jaisalmer by pre-booked cab. It took almost 5-6hrs to reach Jaisalmer. On the way to Jaisalmer we visited Jaisalmer War Museum.
Jaisalmer
We reached Jaisalmer in the evening and checked into hotel Mystic Jaisalmer. It was a very nice hotel in the reasonable price. Their service was outstanding , they served us as if we were their only guest there and they served everyone there with the same enthusiasm. I had my daughter with me and they took special care of children . All the food and milk for my daughter was complimentary from their side. If ever you visit Jaisalmer do check in this hotel, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
We then went to Gadisagar Lake in the evening which is walking distance from the hotel . We saw beautiful sunset there and also saw puppet show in the nearby Folklore museum. It was very nice show and if you are with your children you must visit this. We ended our day with nice dinner in the hotel itself.
Next day we went to Jaisalmer fort ,it is the only living fort in India where people still stay inside some areas of the fort. It is a big fort so I would suggest you to wear comfortable footwears while roaming around the fort. If possible don’t do any shopping inside the fort as it is expensive inside. You can shop from outside the fort ,there is a whole street market out there. Just outside the fort you can find a small vendor selling kachoris .It is known as Fateh ki kachori, it is very famous and crowded there but their kachoris are amazing. You must try out if you visit there but you need to ask locals there about it as it is just a small shop cum cart which can easily be missed as it doesn’t have any name written on it. Then there is one Patwaon ki Haveli which is walking distance from the fort.
We returned to hotel at lunch time as we needed to go for camel safari. We did this booking from hotel itself and we left from hotel @3pm as the desert camp is 50kms away from the city. We went to Sunny Desert Camp and from their we did camel ride which was half n hr ride and it was very nice. We reached in the desert on time to capture the beautiful sunset ⛅ and the view there was breathtaking. Whole desert was so peaceful and was shining with the light of the setting sun. We stayed there for an hour or so, witnessed sunset there and then we came back to the camp. The camp package generally includes camel safari, cultural programs, dinner and stay at the tents but we only opted for the camel safari so we came back to hotel after the safari.
Jodhpur
We travelled back to jodhpur next day and visited Mandore gardens on the way back. Then we reached our hotel Treebo-The Marwar & resorts in the evening. This hotel was not upto the mark and standard of Treebo. If you are just going for Treebo brand name I would suggest you to avoid it as it is very commercial hotel as well as overpriced. The staff and manager there are very mechanical ,they just do their job only as duty.
We visited Clock tower (ghanta Ghar) and local markets nearby. That market has some famous eating joints like Shahi Samosa, Makhaniya lassi of Mishrilal shop ,you must try this as it’s very tasty. Also this market closes early as around 7:00-7:30pm .
Next day we visited Mehrangagrh fort which is few kms away from the city but it’s worth visiting. It takes upto 3hrs to visit the whole fort . If you are planning to have some good photographs in some royal palace then this is the place. You can also visit Jaswant Thada which is 10min walk from the fort.
We had train in the same evening so we came back to hotel and picked our luggage and headed toward station. On the way to station we halted for some sweets at Janta Sweets which is at walking distance from station. Jodhpur has some famous sweets like Rabri k ladoo, Mawe ki kachori, Ghewar , Payaz ki kachori. So you can try them out if you are in Jodhpur.
So this was the end of my trip on sweet note.
Happy journey to you if you are traveling to visit Royal Rajasthan. 😄
