Udaipur is one of the beautiful cities of Rajasthan. We visited Udaipur in the first week of December. Weather was perfect and the tourist crowd was picking up but not that much. We also got all our bookings done easily. We stayed in Udaipur for 3 days and it was a nice relaxing holiday.
Delhi to Udaipur
We boarded Chetak Express from Sarai Rohilla, Delhi in the evening and reached Udaipur at around 8 in the morning. The train service (punctuality and travel time wise) is very good.
Day-1
After reaching Udaipur ,we headed towards our hotel JaiSinghGarh Palace, it is a nice hotel with reasonable price. The food is also nice and they have good breakfast spread. We especially liked the aloo parantha(potato stuffed chapati).
We started our Udaipur visit with Jagdish Temple and it turned out to be a great decision. It was only 5-10min ride from the hotel. Architecture of the temple was good and a lot have been said about it , but something else added to the surreal feel. As we climbed the temple staircase, we could hear music. No loud speakers or microphones. Just the sound of people singing bhajans ( religious songs). As we entered the temple the sound grew louder and louder and the whole atmosphere created by those handful of people ( young and old men and women) was a mesmerising experience. The peacefulness of the temple and yet the charged atmosphere due to the music added to the charm of the physical architecture of the temple which stood around us.
I would suggest people who want to soak in the spiritual feel go there early as the bhajans happen until 11 am after that they close for afternoon to reopen later in evening.
Jagdish Temple
We spent almost an hour in this Temple and then headed towards Sahelion ki bari. Its just a series of gardens with fountains and some royal historical background but then in Udaipur everything has a background. We then had our aunthentic Rajasthani lunch (thaali) at Natraj Dining Hall. The food was tasty and the variety was good. The service was prompt at reasonable price of Rs 180 per head (buffet). Do give a try if you want to have some good Rajasthani cuisine (Vegetarian)
It was now time to explore some lakes of Udaipur so we headed towards Lake Pichola. This lake gives a beautiful view of Jag Mandir, located amidst the lake. We did boating here and stayed until the sunset which was again a beautiful experience.
We ended our day at Bagore ki Haveli and this was the topping on the cake! We came out at 8pm after one hour of fun filled and exciting displays of Rajasthani culture , traditional dances and some jaw dropping skill! It’s better to reach early so that you can grab good seats. And it’s good to buy camera/cellphone camera ticket of Rs 100 as it’s impossible to resist the temptation of capturing what’s going on in front of your eyes and this helps to support the artists as well. My recommendation- do not miss this!
Bagore ki Haveli
So our first day at Udaipur ended with this awesome performances, then we had dinner and headed back to our hotel.
