Udaipur- City of Lakes -3

This article is part of a series , which details my experience in Udaipur. To read from beginning please click here

Day-3
We started our day with visiting City Palace of Udaipur. The palace museum is good. The entry fee is Rs.115 per person and photography equipment is charged extra ( as with most places in Udaipur).
The museum mostly houses artefacts, paintings, sculptures etc mostly from the last 150-200 years. The view of the lake outside from some parts of the museum is also breath taking.
We felt bored after an hour or so inside the museum as the focus of the museum shifted more towards the current king and his family. Not much was there in terms of early history dating back 300-400 years.
If you happen to visit on a crowded day then be prepared to be pushed and shoved around as the some of the viewing rooms and alleys are very small. After this palace visit we had lunch in the nearby rooftop restaurant in the market itself.
Our next stop was Monsoon Palace. It was a last minute addition to our itinerary and must say the evening we spent on the hill was nothing less than awesome!! The view is breathtaking as well as the sun set!
The monsoon palace itself has nothing to see. Looks like somebody started building it and then forgot about it!
The only sour point: if you don’t have your own car you need to buy a ticket for ride in a cab (90 per person) and then wait for the cab to come and pick you. Its totally on their mercy how many people they cram in car depending on crowd…for us out wait time was 15-20 mins while we saw private cabs zipping past .
My suggestion would be, if possible ,arrive here in your own cab(entry fee for cab would only need to be paid) , as that would avoid any hassle of waiting for a common cab , specially on your return journey , when the whole crowd is waiting for the return outside the palace waiting impatiently for the cab to come and the moment a cab arrives , everyone jumps on it!
In our case two cabs arrived on the way back, and they crammed every one they could in those two cabs. 2 or 3 folks couldn’t make it and those poor souls would need to wait another 20 mins for the next cab i guess…
so get your car to enjoy the overall experience of the place which according to me is a must see!
(Tuk tuk or autorickshaw is allowed only till the gate at the bottom of the hill. only cars, bikes , jeeps and buses are allowed to go further up . Distance is 5 km uphill i believe).

     Monsoon Palace

By the time we came back from Monsoon Palace ,it was dinner time and we had our dinner at Raj Baagh restaurant. The location is great and thats what pulled us in. The food quality was nothing to boast about but it was expensive.Felt pretty much being taken for a ride being charged just for the location may be !

This ended our 3rd day in Udaipur and next day we had train back to Delhi.

Overall I had a good time in this city and it surely was very memorable!
